Fabric of the Day: Hawaiian Print Fabrics

My mom and brother just got back from a fabulous Hawaii trip! They picked out the fabrics themselves and brought it all the way back to NY. The fabric was purchased at what they describe as a “huge fabric warehouse filled with giant spools of fabric” in Maui. I believe it’s this place:

Fabric of the Day: IKEA Fabrics

Yep, the dorm/modular furniture store from Sweden carries fabric. Right in their stores! Not many home sewers or crafters think IKEA when they are looking for fabrics. I always forget myself. But IKEA always has a wonderful selection of beautiful prints reminiscent of Kokka Fabrics, Japan. And for very affordable prices! They range from $2.99 – $9.99 per yard. They do design right and their side collection of fabrics is no exception. If you love Kokka, then you know. It’s Kokka quality (and style) designs for about half the price!

It’s a stylish and economical option for all those homemade holiday gifts you’ll be making from now until Christmas! Here’s a sampling of my picks from their Fall Collection for North America.

I went gaga over this fabric. It’s going to be made into a mod-style shift dress, Simplicity #2568 from the Sew Stylish Collection by Simplicity! Coming soon! I originally bought it for my Papercut Patterns Circle Top but I’m using a gorgeous wool jersey for that! That fabric post coming soon too.

FABRIC OF THE DAY: African Print Fabrics

I popped over to P & S Fabrics today to get a magnetic sewing guide (Dritz $3) to clip onto my sewing machine. I was getting sick of using a piece of tape as a sewing guide and they are open on a Sunday so I thought why not! And I got that and then some!

I found a huge cache of African Print Fabrics on sale at P & S Fabrics. I also popped next door to Jem Fabric Warehouse and found some slightly pricier but slightly finer quality wax prints too!
